To generate my top 100 movies list, I used my DVD collection, Evan's Top 100 list, Oscar award winners, and IMDB. I used IMDB quite extensively. They have a top-50 list for each major genre of movie (comedy, action, scifi, etc...). Beyond that, I also used them for cross referencing. Once I had about 160+ movies, I went through ever one of them on IMDB and looked up what other movies the director or actors were involved in. That brought my nominee list up to 196.

To be a nominee, a film had to be one that I liked and would see again. It is a pretty easy criteria. I'm pretty sure this list is not -all- films I liked and would see again, but I am pretty sure it does contain my top 100 movies - which is the ultimate point.

As I sorted these 196 movies down to a final ordering, I struggled to find a way to "rate" the films. In the end I decided to stick with the traditional "star" rating. I rated every film on a 0 to 5 star scale. This ranking is how much I like the film, not an assessment of its artistic quality, and not an assessment of how much someone else might like this film. I found that every movie of my 196 ranked at least 3 stars - that probably came about simply because they were only movies I would see again. I think 2 star films and below are movies I wouldn't see again.
