Firmware Updates:
- Camera Module:
- Increased Video Quality: This
includes: >=24fps. Use of Delta frames. As well as significant
overall quality increase. The currrent video quality is miserable
- almost unusable. Note: If a decrease in frame-size is nessesary
to increase overall quality - this would be better than nothing.
-
3.3mpix Cam300 is better
- Increased Still
Picture Quality: This may not be possible, but we are
all dissapointed with the still picture quality, though not as much
as we are with the video quality. -
3.3mpix
Cam300 is better

- View JPGs while MP3s are playing
- Enhanced Playlists (Winamp-style playlisting)*:
- Playing a playlist and then stopping
by pressing Off should return you to the playlist's directory not
the directory of the current playing file.
- Holding down Play to add a folder and
all sub folders should also add all playlists.
- With Resume mode on, playlists, too,
should be resumed when you turn the JBMM back on
- Allow AVIs in playlists
- When in "shuffle" mode, the player
should keep a backlog of which songs it played, so if you hear a
song you like, you can simply press "back" a couple of
times to hear it again later
- I want the ability to enter a playlist as
if it were a directory to see what songs are in it.
- Support for CUE files - to treat long MP3 files as multiple tracks
- Save in addition to the current Save-As (its a real pain to edit
a playlist and then save the changes to the same file)

- Playlist view - can see what song is playing from the current
playlist
- While playing, add a song to the playlist without interruption
- Add a currently playing song to the playlist
- Automatic playlist: new songs and automatically create a playlist
for all newly added materials
- Automatic playlist: least played songs (like the Rio Riot) so
you can listen to material that is new (aka. not played in a while)
- Automatic playlist: most played songs so you can listen to material
that is the most popular to you
- auto slide show for pictures directories
- Playlist PlayMode: can edit the current
playlist while it is playing Already there
- Add this dir and all subdirs to playlist
& Can keep adding (tagging) files, directories, and other playlists
for playlist generation without having to go through the menu -
Already there - press and hold play to add current item (and all
sub items)
- Add saved playlist to current playlist.
- Fixed 1.1.4
- More than max 999 (9999 should be good)
file playlist - Upped to 5000 files max in 1.1.4
- Sort playlist: random-sort. Fixed
1.1.6(?)
- Enhanced Browsing:
- 2 browsing modes: File+Directory based
and ID3 tag based (like iPod). ID3 based should work
just the same as F+D based with the a 3-level directory structure
based on the ID3 tag information: Artist, Album, Song. Of course
play and add-to-current-playlist "all songs by artist"
and "all songs on album" should be supported. Genre based
browsing should also be supported - it could be another top-level
"directory" in the ID3-based browsing.
- Copy and Move files and directories without
a PC
- Faster scrolling through large directories
(holding up or down should immediatly scroll up or down at
10+ lines per second, right now it takes 7 seconds before it starts
scrolling faster than you can with repeated up/down presses)
- Memory of where you last were scrolled to in each Dir so you can
quickly renavigate to where you were.
- Ability to Sort directories by Date and FileSize in addition to
Name.
- Enhanced Recording:
- WAV file or higher bit-rate recording
- Able to set a default directory
- Ability to split or join a MP3s already on the Harddrive - just
like Minidisc recorders can do.
- Instead of "name
already exists" when recording just add to end of _## sequence
Alternative provided in 1.1.4: REC0000, REC0001, REC0002...
- Enhanced Audio / Video Playback:
- Audio: Fastforward / Rewind too slow
for large (1hour+) mp3s (why didn't they use the same
alg as Video FF/RW?).
- Glitch-less & Gapless MP3 playback
- MPEG1 Video Support
- Video: Frame-by-frame forward and backward
- Video: Different play speeds .5x 1x 2x 5x 10x 30x 300x.
- Audio: Graphic spectrum analyiser during playback
- Holding Up/Down to goto to the next/previous album/artist (whichever
comes first) (songs w/o MP3s use Parrent/GrandParrent dir)
- Bookmarking: Any MP3, AVI, or Playlist should be able to be stopped
with a "place-bookmark" that can be used later to resume
playing exactly where you left off. Allow at least 1 bookmark per
file.
- No-repeat Random.
- Rewinding to the beginning of one track should start RW at the
end of the previous track.
- Lock song - when a song is playing, in any play mode, the option
to set that song to repeat continuously. (sitching to 'Single' playmode
is okay - but it doesn't currently do this)
- MP3 track cross-fading
- RW should reset the current track. Pressing
RW twice should move to the previous track (like every other player
in the world) (fixed in 1.3.2 or before)
- User Interface Enhancements:
- Color: More use of it in the UI (set UI
background image, color icons, etc.) 1.2.1
Added 5 color presets - only 3 of which anyone uses. We
still want user customizable color schemes (at a minimum).
We'd really like full skins as in my Ode.
- AV300s make good use of Color, but still no
user options or skins
- File name editor should allow you to edit
in the middle of the name - not just the end.
- Option for smaller fonts to display more
information on screen
- Customizable UI (change UI color, background images, etc.) *
- Lock mode to stop
accidental button pressing while the JBMM is in your pocket. FIXED
1.1.4 - Hold F1
- Misc Enhancements:
- Full Flash media management:
Move and Copy files To Flash. Also Delete, Rename, CreateFolder
on Flash. Treat Flash as an another hard drive, not read-only-memory!
- User settable HD spin-down time-out -
Supported on the AV300s
- Clearly showing what the first file in
a folder is- put a scroll bar on the right. -
Supported on the AV300s
- User Option: Should be an option to, when LCD is off, a key press
turns on the LCD AND it does its normal job.
- Passwords and encryption for files/folders on the JBM
- ability to edit tags
- ability to read tags, even when not listening to the mp3
- Timer functions: Sleep - A sleep-mode that shuts down the JBM a
certain time after no buttens have been pressed regardless of if it
is playing something or not.
- Standby mode. Don't turn off but rather shut down as much as possible
except the Ram so that one click can bring things back up without
a "reboot".
- Save-Power-MP3 playback mode: When On and the LCD has automatically
shut off, the volume up/down, skip forward/backward a track, scan
forward/backward, play, pause, stop, and lock all work without turning
the LCD back on. This means that "on", "f1", "f2"
and "f3" all turn the LCD back on but nothing else does.
If "lock" does not turn the LCD on it should make a bleep
in the head phones when turned on, a bleep when a key is pressed and
lock is on, and a different bleep with lock is turned off.
- Alarms: Set a MP3/Playlist/AVI/JPG and a Time/Date. When the alarm
goes off, wherever the JBMM is doing is suspended (paused) and the
alarm file/files are "played". When the alarm is done, the
JBMM resumes (unpauses) whatever it was doing. Should power-on the
JBMM and fire off the alarm if it is off
- Savable Settings: you should be able to save your settings to a
file. This way is you take out the battery, you can quickly load the
settings back into the JBMM
- Save sound presets. even just two or three would be good.
- Graphic equalizer sound controls #
- Battery display while USB2 connected
- TV-out adjustments: Brightness, contrast, and most of all, gamma.
- A battery-timer that is reset by the users that measures how long
the JBMM has been running on battery.
- %Battery-Left Display (option instead of the current icon representation).
- Show a picture as a screen saver
- Asian Multilingual support
- Display total diskspace, sub-dirs, and files of each directory
- Mute
- Add a soft beep with each time the user presses a key (use customizable
beep from a wav file would be even better)
- Timer functions: Start playing/recording
at a specific date/time - 1.3.0 added DVR recording start/stop data/time
- Hard-drive access indicator when computer
is writing/reading or when waiting for HD to spin up w/o computer
1.2.1 Fixed this for StandAlone modes - but it still doesn't show
access when connected to a computer
- Smarter, faster interface so it stalls
less often due to HD (cache directory structures in that 16 megs!)
1.2.1 mostly fixed this with the HD access indicator an an auto-reset
of the HD spin-down-timer with every key you press
- Each time-out (HD spin-down, JBMM poweroff,
and Backlight) should be disabled by setting it to MAX time-out -
or at least disabled when connected to external power FIXED 1.1.6
- Finer volume control (the quietist
setting isn't quiet enough) (improved I believe)
Wishful Thinking Firmware Additions:
- Advanced ID3 support (Lyrics, album images, etc...)
- Text viewer (poor man's personal organizer) *
- Adv. Viewer (PDF, HTML, eBook) *
- Personal organizer (appointments, phonebook, calendar, world-time,
voice notes etc...) *
- Games (tetris, snake, solitaire) *
- Remember your favorite songs and creates custom mixes, like charts
/ top 100 / 20 #
- DSP audo effects # (Like the Dolby
Headphone effect)
- Better file format support (MPEG-1, AAC Audio, MP3Pro, WMA Audio,
OGG Audio, M-Jpeg. TIFF and RAW images) #
- Adjust playback-speed and pitch independently (speed/tempo
- 2x to as slow as you want - .01 speed, pitch/key - at least +/- 1
octave) #
- On-Screen Visualization (plugins?) beyond just L & R levels.
