Windows (WebpageDate: 2006-05-12) We were just going to refinish the original windows and rebuild their frame... and their counter-weight mechanism and... Well, we looked at the prices of windows at Lowes and Home Depot one day and discovered they just weren't that expensive. So we decided to go for replacing them to save us some time and effort... and to have modern, double-pane windows with screens. Some very smart person pointed out we kidna need screens on our windows if we wanted to open them (we have cats). We installed the windows on 2006/3/19. It only took a weekend to install them, but it took a few weekends to do the final detail work such as the trim. During that time we were working on insulation on other parts of the room. The replacement was really easy. Once we had it all together, we realized how much bigger the room felt. Out of curiosity, I did some measurements and calculations and discovered the new windows let in 30% more light! We knew the new windows would be a little bit bigger, but we had no idea what the impact was going to be. What a pleasant surprise :). Below are several before and after pictures of the windows. The first set of pictures are 4 phases of development from inside. The top two are the old windows. The bottom two are the new.
These next set of pictures (below) are approximately at the same scale. You can see what a big difference the new windows make!
Somehow that flowerbed ended up crooked after we worked on the window. We'll have to fix that later. The white lines in the corners of our trim show where we weren't quite perfect in making the trim meet up. The white is calk that is paintable. Someday soon we'll to a last bit of touch-ups and you won't even notice. Finally, here are some pictures from outside.
