Updated 3D Renders (WebpageDate: 2006-02-25)

Sometime in the fall of 2005 we realized our original plan needed some revision. We used chalk and marked out the whole kitchen on the sub floor and discovered the walkway was cramped and awkward. So, we chopped off the corners of the breakfast-bar and made part of it foldable. We also angled the pantry some.

We also changed our plan for the center wall & beam and we decided to put our rafter-ties a 8" higher so there are the standard 8' above the floor. To visualize all this and make sure we liked it, we redid the 3D model and made some renders.

The first two pairs of pictures show the updated renders as the compare to our work in progress. The renders are about 3-4 months older than the work-in-progress pictures. Things look like they are computer together surprisingly close to plan.

Notice the blue light-boxes in the pictures on the right and how they correspond to the labeled light locations in the pictures on the left.

Note, in the right-picture below, "Light B" cannot be seen.

Now here is a view from the entry door. These new renders also have the floor textured closer to what we are planning. I should not that all the red is not really what we are planning, it is just a good easy way to visualize the space.

Next is a view from the hallway. It is as if you had walked forward from the last picture, past the screen with the kanji on it (the kanji is "Simplicity" if you care ;) ) and turned left. You can see the new collapsible, softer-corner breakfast bar. You can also see that the Center wall is now a half-wall all the way across with some shelves. The ones shown are probably not going to be our final design.

Now, look up and see the ceiling. I think it looks pretty nice, don't you?

If you walked into the kitchen and turned around, this is what you'd see (below). The next two images show the breakfast-bar collapsed and extended:

Walking around into the living room and looking back at the kitchen you can see our red refrigerator! Ok, we don't have a red refrigerator. It just needed to be some color other than gray so we could see it. The stove is opposite it, but its color is still gray.

Now take a step back and look at the whole space, looking North towards the "new' part of the house. Nice and roomy :).

Turn to the right and look at the entry way and you've seen the whole space :).

Just for giggles - here is what our 3D model looks like from the outside. How many things are wrong in this picture?
